Latest ERS Monograph on ILD: Pulmonary Manifestations of Systemic Diseases

Editors: Wim A. Wuyts, Vincent Cottin, Paolo Spagnolo and Athol U. Wells

Publication date: December 2019

Interest in interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) has risen in recent years. A large volume of basic and clinical research has increased understanding of the pathogenesis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and non-IPF fibrotic ILDs. The ILD field is now evolving rapidly, with major implications for practical management.

Pulmonary Manifestations of Systemic Diseases, the latest issue of the ERS Monograph book series, is therefore timely as it provides expert clinical guidance on these difficult diseases. Guest Editors Wim A. Wuyts, Vincent Cottin, Paolo Spagnolo and Athol U. Wells have carefully crafted a book that brings together leaders in the field to provide an accessible reference guide to the area.

The book is divided into four parts: diagnostic issues, pulmonary function tests and techniques; connective tissue diseases; systemic vasculitides; and other diseases with extrathoracic involvement. Chapters within these sections cover a number of conditions: sarcoidosis, systemic sclerosis, rheumatoid artheritis, Sjögren syndrome, Takayasu arteritis, Behçet disease, liver disease, and much more.

The Guest Editors hope that this Monograph will provide the reader with an interesting overview and update on the possible pulmonary involvement and specific treatment options of different systemic diseases. Their ultimate aim is for the book to raise further interest in these diseases, leading to an increase in collaboration between different organ specialists and acting as a catalyst to the development of more basic and clinical research in these intriguing diseases.
