A new life for ten years

Ellen and Carla are two sisters, who both underwent a double lung transplant 10 years ago.

Watch this great video about the impact of lung transpant in the life of two young women.

Ellen and Carla are two sisters, who both underwent a double lung transplant 10 years ago. They have, or rather had a familial form of pulmonary fibrosis. This illness was very progressive and they feared for their lives. Fortunately, there were donor lungs available on time and they were successfully transplanted. About the donor discussion they both have a nuanced view. Ellen: “Of course one must have a free choice.” So we like to call to everyone to make a choice: ‘Donor, yes or no?’. Think about it, don’t push the question aside. “Personally, I think,” Carla says, “that your relatives at a time of death should not be bothered with such a decision. That is an inhuman demand at that time. ” “We hope our story helps to motivate people to make their own informed choices and to make the decision known to their environment and register as donor, or not.”
